SUMMARY:Was Esther's Heroism Problematic?: Ramifications of the Well-Intentioned Sin with Rabbanit Gila Rosen
DESCRIPTION:This class is open to women and men \nOnline Class- Register to receive the link to the Zoom room \nCan’t get to Israel this Winter? Ma’ayan is bringing Israel to you! This class is part of Ma’ayan’s Israeli Speaker Series where we bring some of Israel’s best Torah teachers right to your home computer. \nEsther has been an important heroine to many Jews over the ages. But is she a figure to be emulated?\nDoes her story help us rethink whether the end can ever justify the means? A contemporary look at some idea in Halakha and Midrash.\n\n\n\n\n\nGilla Rosen is the Dean emeritus of the Yakar Center for Tradition and Creativity. She has lectured at a number of institutions including Yakar\, Nishmat\, Pardes\, Lindenbaum and the Hebrew University. She teaches Gemara\, Midrash and Tefilla and serves as a Nishmat Halachic Advisor for women. Gilla is an engaging and multidimensional teacher\, best known for her outstanding ability as a Talmud teacher. Gilla was Ma’ayan’s keynote speaker at last year’s Women’s Siyum HaShas.\n\n\n\n\nFor questions or to learn more about our sponsorship opportunities contact Ilana at Director@maayan.org

SUMMARY:February 929 Meeting with Rachel Danzinger
DESCRIPTION:This class is open to women only \nOnline Class – Register to receive the link to the Zoom room \n\n\n\n“Man and Nature\, Praise the Lord!”\n\nMany Psalms unite humanity with nature in glorifying God. But do these Psalms emphasize the inner unity of all Creation… Or the distinctions at its heart?\n And for March let’s do “The Psalmist’s path to Liberty: Finding Freedom in One’s Heart”\n\nThe 929 Project is a worldwide program\, now in its second cycle. Participants are guided each day\, 5 days a week\, to read a chapter of the Tanach\, and after 929 days they will have completed the entire Tanach. Keeping on schedule with the daily chapters is not necessary for participation in the class.\n\nEach month we discuss relevant themes in the previous month’s chapters. Rachel facilitates each class and exposes participants to various texts\, both Jewish and secular.\n\nThis remote class is open to women only. There is a suggested donation of $10 for this class. Register to receive the Zoom link and source sheet before the class\n\n  \n \nRachel Sharansky Danziger grew up in Jerusalem\, where she completed degrees in philosophy and history and taught Tanach to new immigrants. Her MA focused on the way 18th century American protoevangelicals told their personal stories\, and what their stories tell us about their experiences of emotions and self. Rachel explored similar connections between stories\, religion\, and emotions in workshops she led that combined Torah study and creative writing. She blogs about Judaism\, Israel and parenting for the Times of Israel\, Kveller\, and other online venues. \n\n\nFor questions or to learn more about our generous scholarships contact Ilana at Director@maayan.org
