How are rabbinic stories crafted? How do they accrue details and what causes them to shift over time? We will explore the evolution of the story of Rabbi Chaninah ben Teradion’s martyrdom and reflect on how the different versions raise questions and provide answers to each other.

Wendy Amsellem is a faculty member at Drisha. She directed the July Kollel for women and the Dr. Beth Samuels High School Program and is a graduate of the Drisha Scholars Circle and high school programs. She is pursuing a PhD in Judaic Studies at New York University and has a BA in History and Literature from Harvard University.
